Srinagar, Aug 25: Pensioners Welfare Association (PWA) and senior citizens of the Kashmir Valley on Saturday held a protest rally in Srinagar to protest against the petitions challenging Article 35-A of the Constitution.

Reports said that scores of senior citizens and pensioners led by Sampat Prakash assembled at Pratap Park in Srinagar and held a protest to extend support to Article 35-A, which grants special privileges to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

The protesters were carrying placards with messages like ‘Save Article-35A’ and ‘Save disputed status of Kashmir’.

Separatists have called for a two-day shutdown from August 30 to protest the “assault” on Article 35-A.

Supreme Court is likely to hear a bunch of petitions challenging the legislation on August 31.

Meanwhile, pro-freedom slogans were raised by the protesters during a march called to support Article 35-A in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district today.

Reports said that around 600 people took part in the protest march called by the local National Conference legislator Javed Rana.

While calling for retention of Article 35-A, the protesters raised pro-freedom slogans in the main town.
