Srinagar, Aug 17: Unknown gunmen on Friday shot dead a 38-year-old woman in Drabgam village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Reports said that some unknown persons opened fire on the woman, Shameema Banu, wife of Ali Mohammad Bhat near the home of her parents at Drabgam village today afternoon.

Shameema (38), a resident of Quil village, was visiting her parents when she was shot, leaving her injured.

The woman was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital. However, she succumbed on the way, said a police officer, according to GNS news agency.

Soon after the incident, a hunt was launched to nab the assailants, he said.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been lodged,” the officer said.

A police spokesman said Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit was behind the killing of the woman.
