SRINAGAR, AUGUST 14 : Taking note of a complaint lodged by a parent against a trader selling school uniforms of a particular school without a price tag, the field executives of Legal Metrology Department conducted the spot inspection of the premises of the trader near 90-feet road Srinagar and found the complaint genuine.

The trader was found selling the school uniforms without the label carrying a mandatory declaration of MRP /Month & Year of Manufacture/Size in metric units/Customer care details etc. Under Legal Metrology laws, it is obligatory on the manufacturer to print MRP/Size/Date/Customer-care details/Address of Manufacturer etc on the label of the uniform. The retailers are not allowed to sell the school uniforms which are not conforming to labelling norms.

The trader failed to provide the bill/invoice of the manufacturer and as a result, he was held responsible for the lapse. In absence of the price on the label, there is every apprehension that the customer will be cheated. The customer has the right to know about the price, quality, standard, size, etc of the school uniforms. The retailer was penalized at Rs 3000/- for the shortcoming.

The consumers may contact the department on the toll-free No 1800-180-7114 or 0194-2490390 during office hours in case they have some genuine complaints regarding Legal Metrology laws/Consumer Protection Act.
