Court extends remand of accused for 15 days

Srinagar: Court of 2nd Additional Munsif Srinagar has extended the judicial remand of the accused involved in a weapon snatching and a cop killing case that took place in Soura area of Srinagar on February 25 last year for 15 days.

Police produced the accused persons before the Court of 2nd Additional Munsif Srinagar on Thursday for extending the remand of the four accused who were already on 12 day remand in order to get more information about the said case.

The court also directed the police concerned for medical examinations of the accused persons.

It may be mentioned here that police arrested the accused on 23 July under under FIR No: 26/2018 under Sections 302, 392 RPC, 7/27Arms Act, Section 13, 18 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, registered in Police Station Soura.

The four persons were accused of carrying out an attack on Hurriyat Conference leader Fazal Haq Qureshi that left one cop namely Farooq Ahmad  dead. After killing the cop, the assailants had fled away with his service rifle on February 25, 2013.

During the course of investigation, police tracked all the accused and arrested them. They have been identified as Umar Noor Bhat, Waseem Ahmad Sofi, Ubaid Zoji and Adil Majid Bhat have been arrested.

Investigation, as per police, revealed that Adil Majid, Waseem Ahmad and Umar Noor Bhat carried out reconnaissance of the residence of Fazal Haq Qureshi on Feburary 25 at Soura Srinagar for the attack.
