Dismayed at poor condition of Mughal Road, Guv calls for audit of its maintenance expenditure

Srinagar, Aug 9: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to conduct a physical and financial audit of the Mughal Road to ascertain the reasons behind its poor maintenance.

The strategic Mughal Road provides alternate connectivity to Kashmir with rest of the country. “The governor expressed dismay over the dilapidated condition of the Mughal Road and directed the PWD to undertake a physical and financial audit to fix responsibility for the poor maintenance of this strategic road,” an official said after Vohra chaired a high-level meeting here yesterday.

fficers from public works, planning and monitoring and finance departments took part in the meeting.

Recalling his recent journey on the Mughal Road, the governor said the strategic link was in poor condition, causing great inconvenience to commuters.

Commissioner Secretary of Public Works Department Khurshid Ahmad Shah informed the governor that various measures are being taken to make Mughal Road an all-weather link.

Further, National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has floated a tender for construction of a tunnel on the 84-km-long road.

The governor also expressed concern over the inordinate delay in the completion of the 7-km stretch from Katra Railway Station to Kakryal in Reasi district.
