Secretary Floriculture inaugurates “Nature Study and Tree Talk” at Botanical Garden

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 04:  In order to make the students well acquainted with the medicinal plants and other environmental factors, Nature Clubs are being established in the schools of Kashmir.

This was revealed during a programme “Nature Study and Tree Talk” inaugurated by Secretary Floriculture, Talat Parvaiz at Botanical Garden here today.

Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G.N. Itoo, Director Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing O P Sharma Vidhyarthi, Director Floriculture Mathoora Masoom and other concerned were present on the occasion during which students were made aware about the uses of medicinal plants.

A ‘Tree Talk’ was also held during which Director Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing made students aware of the uses and importance of many medicinal plants found in the state. Secretary Floriculture called the event as historic and stressed upon the participants to play their role in conserving the food and water resources.

Later, the students were taken for “Nature Walk” from Botanical Garden to Tulip Garden during which they were provided useful information regarding the different medicinal plants.

On the experts enumerated medicinal benefits of various plants like Bun waangun, Bergenia, Mazaar mund, Gew theer, Haapat tung, Pambe chaalan, Kah zabaan, Braare gaase, Kalryun etc.

Director Floriculture informed that around 1000 varieties of flowers including 300 hundred species are found across the state. She said that as per the instructions of Secretary Floriculture, the students will be provided free entry for Educational Tours to Botanical Garden on every Saturday under prior permission.

Director School Education Kashmir said that efforts are underway to establish nature clubs in the schools to inculcate environmental values and ethics among the students.
