Kupwara: In first such incident in frontier district of Kupwara, militants snatched a rifle today from a policeman in Khurhama area of Lolab.

The militants snatched an INSAS rifle from constable Mohammad Ishaq at Khurhama area of Lolab in the north Kashmir district, a police official said.

He said Ishaq was on duty in connection with the visit of MLA Lolab Abdul Haq Khan, a former minister, in the area when the incident took place.

The police have launched a probe into the incident, the official said.

Meanwhile, militants on Tuesday evening attacked an army camp in Chillipora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Reports said that around 8:30 pm, militants fired a grenade at the 44 RR camp in Chillipora village and then fired some shots.

However, there was no immediate report of any injury or loss of life, said police sources.

They said the forces cordoned the area and have launched a search operation to nab the militants.
