DDC Ganderbal for grooming budding sports talent

GANDERBAL, JULY 23: District Development Commissioner Ganderbal Dr Piyush Singla today stressed the need for grooming budding sports talent in the district.

The DDC made these remarks while chairing a meeting to review sports and youth engagement policy in the district wherein District Level Task Force (DLTF) was constituted to chalk-out the modalities and prepare a roadmap for the youth engagement programs in the district.

On the occasion, the DDC informed that officers from Youth Services and Sports, State Sports Council, Department of Education, Rural Development Department, Police, CRPF, BSF and Army will be the members of DLTF that will supervise the youth engagement programs launched by various departments.

He said that district Ganderbal has a huge potential with respect to sports and DLTF committees will help in exploiting this potential.

Dr Singla said that there needs to be constant review and updating of plans being executed by various departments for engaging youth in various sports activates, construction of new sports infrastructure, preparing a calendar for youth activities for the year, making sports clubs and other youth-related activities.

To accentuate sports culture at the block level, the DDC allocated blocks to the DLTF committee members and asked them to take responsibility of engaging more youth in sports activities at their respective block levels and show the results on the ground.

Reiterating the focus of maintaining existing sports infra, especially playfields and develop new ones, the DDC asked the ADDC Ganderbal, N.A Baba to inspect the works of MaadriMeharban Stadium Ganderbal executed by sports council.

He further asked the ACD Rural Development to make DPR of the playfields of the district of all the blocks like Tulmula Ground, SalooraNambal ground, Sindhbal Ground, Goorvan Lar ground, Girls High School Wakoora ground, Safapora ground, playfield in Kangan near Sheikh-ul Alam School.

The DDC stressed on maintaining the current sports infrastructure within the schools of the district besides constructing new sports infrastructure having urinals, change-room and fencing.

The meeting was attended by SSP Ganderbal, Fayaz Ahmad Lone Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, District Youth Services & Sports officer, Incharge Manager sports Council, besides officers from Police, Army BSF and RR.
