Family heckled, attacked by unknown persons in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jul 22: A Srinagar family has alleged that they were heckled and attacked by two unknown persons on Saturday evening near Alochi Bagh area of Srinagar.

According to the family, on Saturday evening they had left from their home in Bemina for an outing, and while waiting near Alochi Bagh area for other family members to join them, they were heckled and abused by an unknown person who was riding a scooter.

“The heckler, who was drunk, started abusing us for no reason,” alleged the family.

“As I was waiting for my brother to reach Alochi Bagh, a person approached towards our car. After reaching near the car, he started abusing me and my sister and when I tried to ask the person why he was abusing us, the person who was joined by another boy started beating me,” said Abrar Ahmad.

According to his family members, Abrar was ruthlessly beaten and injured by the attackers. He was hit with a stone in the head and had to be interned at SMHS Hospital for treatment.

They said Abrar was accompanied by his three sisters – and they too were harassed and abused.

As per the eyewitnesses, it was the timely intervention of locals in Alochi Bagh that the family was saved from the wrath of hecklers.

“When I saw them beating my brother mercilessly, I tried to save him and meanwhile one of the abuser pulled off my veil and also pushed me,” said one of the sisters.

The family members told ‘Kashmir Images’ that as the two hecklers were beating Abrar,  they informed the police on phone about the incident following which both the abusers fled from the spot, leaving their scooter (JK01 AF-3129) there.

Talking to the ‘Kashmir Images’ Abdul Rasheed, Investigation Officer (IO), at Shergarhi Police Station said, “Police has filed an FIR under section 354,323 and 506 RPC on the complaint of the family.”

“We were successful in arresting one of the accused on Sunday morning and have also elicited the information of the second one. Hopefully he too will be put behind the bars soon,” the police officer added.

Meanwhile, the locals of Alochi Bagh expressed their concern over the increasing incidents of harassment in the area. “There are some notorious boys who keep rooming freely in our area and police is taking no pains to arrest them,” they alleged.
