Women in Budgam protest drinking water shortage

Budgam: Raising slogans against district administration for failing to provide drinking water, dozens of women in Udroo village of Budgam held a strong protests outside Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Saturday.

Protesters said that they are without drinking water from the past 30 days, while as the administration and Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) have been indifferent towards the issue.

They said that the pipeline that supplies water to Udroo, was damaged due to floods last month. However, till date concerned authorities are unmoved.

“We don’t have drinking water from last 30 days and we are being compelled to drink muddy water from a stream,” said a protester, Naziya.

Later, the women protesters apprised DC  Budgam about the issue who directed the PHE officials to visit the area and ensure regular water supply to Udroo village at an earliest.
