SRINAGAR, JULY 18: Advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today urged the Principals and Headmasters serving in Education Department to improve the quality of education in Government run schools by drawing upon the wealth of their knowledge and experience. The Advisor made these observations while chairing a meeting with General Line Teachers Forum who apprised him about various issues faced by the teachers and educational institutions.

Elaborating on the issue, the Advisor said that Government understands that the head of institutions are required to take care of all the administrative work and may not have much time at their hands to take regular classes, however, to achieve the academic excellence, especially in Government run schools, everyone including principals and headmasters, need to extend their helping hand.

He said that the Principals and Headmasters usually have years of teaching experience and wealth of knowledge and by volunteering to take one or two classes in their institutions, they will not only send a good message among the staff members but will enable the students to avail the benefit from their immense knowledge.

Ganai further added that the teaching will help the Principals and Headmasters to stay in touch with their specialized subjects, and most importantly would enable them to encourage other staff members to give their best.

Earlier, the delegation of the General Line Teachers Forum during their interaction with the Advisor sought immediate redressal of the promotion stagnation issue in the department. They informed that there are many among them who despite getting recruited through proper channel have not received their due promotions for years.

The delegation also suggested for creation of “Teachers Welfare Fund”, adding it could be on the pattern of the welfare fund created in police department, where the employees can themselves contribute on monthly basis.

Besides, they also demanded for creation of lecturer and master grade posts for teaching newly introduced subjects in the education department.
