Eight years on, construction of Ganderbal bus stand still incomplete

Ganderbal, 14 July:  Eight long years have already passed but the construction work of bus stand in Ganderbal town is yet to complete.

Official sources said that construction of bus stand was started in 2009 by Ganderbal municipal committee but there has been very less progress in the construction work.

They said that Municipal committee Ganderbal was not able to take on the construction of the bus stand due to lack of funds following which the district development board handed over the project to R&B department Ganderbal in the year 2012.

Local residents said, “Lack of bus stand in Ganderbal is compelling the buses drivers to park their vehicles on roads in order to pick up  passengers. It often cause traffic jams .Many projects in  Gandebal town has been  put on backburner by by successive governments.Ganderbal is given step motherly treatment.”

Shabir Ahmad a shopkeeper said, Some years ago i invested lot of money to setup shop near the under-construction bus stand with the hope that once  it will be functional and  my business will increase  because rush of people will increase.After many years construction of   bus stand   had no been completed which has effected our business.”

Aqib Magray a student said, “I study in Kashmir University, I am not able to board the bus on time due to lack of bus stand here. I don’t understand why so much time has been taken to complete the bus stand?”

When contacted  Sajad Ahmad, executive ,Engineer R&B department  Ganderbal, he said,  ” This project is funded by Urban development  department .We only execute the project.Funds were and are being  provide very slowly .we have completed the target  of pre-macadamization  .If  funds will be provided on time   we will start further  work on the project.”
