Para Army soldier killed in ongoing Kupwara gunfight

Kupwara: In an ongoing gunfight at Kandi forest of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, an army commando was killed and another sustained critical injuries on Wednesday.

A top Army official said  that an army soldier of 4 PARA identified as Sepoy Mukul Meena was critically in the gunfight at Sadu Ganga forest area of Kandi. The injured was evacuated to military hospital Drugmulla where doctors declared him brought dead.

He said that another army man also sustained critical have injuries who is being treated in the Army hospital.

The CASO operation was launched in the area yesterday late in the afternoon after army’s 47 RR and the group of militants had a stand-off, the officer said.

He said that the militant group later managed to flee from the area, however, today in the afternoon was again intercepted with the help of additional reinforcements of army’s 4 PARA commandos.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar also confirmed the death of the army soldier.

The officer further said that the operation in the area is ongoing.
