Congress calls for peace in Kashmir

Srinagar July 10:  The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has expressed serious concern over the civilian killings and injuries to scores during forces action in Shopian today, emphasizing that peace was imperative for security and overall development of the people.

In a press release issued here, the party urged upon the forces to exercise maximum restraint while dealing with law and order situations, saying that loss of civilians cannot be replaced by anything, besides it adds more anger, leading to deep alienation among the masses.

The JKPCC spokesperson termed the civilian killings and injuries to scores in Shopian as ‘highly unfortunate’ and ‘disappointing’, urging that the unabated bloodshed must come to an end in the larger interest of peace.

Reiterating his appeal to people, especially youth, to maintain peace, the spokesperson added that the valley had suffered immensely due to the wrong policies adopted by previous ‘unholy alliance’ of PDP and BJP while the lack of policies on part of Centre had added chaos to the situation.

The spokesman lamented the fact that the peace initiatives under UPA- I and UPA- II had been undone by BJP Govt at Centre and, as a result, the situation had worsened to a largest extent.  “The unholy alliance of PDP BJP was responsible for the damages caused to peace in the State, the Spokesperson said,” the press release quoted the spokesperson as saying.
