Speaking on the occasion Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat, Member (NZ) KVIC who was chief guest said that the mere slogan of “say no to drugs” will not yield any result. We have a collective responsibility to find the cause, as well as remedial measures, for the safety and security of our youth.

“We lost one generation to the gun and we are going to lose the next generation to drugs,” she said.

She said it is unfortunate that drug addiction in the valley has received little attention from the general public as well as from NGOs, who are just superficially dealing with the problem. It is a big social problem and needs concrete steps and strategies.

The government, mass media and other social organisations must work with great coordination, and in a close-knit manner, to nip the evil in the bud, added she.

Anil Kumar Sharma Assistant Director, Incharge Kashmir Region gave a detailed powerpoint presentation on Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). He said under PMEGP people especially youth can start their entrepreneurship and can be saved from the ill effects of Drugs.

Speakers present on the occasion suggested that the teachers should have a discussion among their students and discourage them from acquiring those habits which are harmful to their life and also to spread the message through social media.
