Lack of adequate parking space near shopping complexes leading to traffic mess in Ganderbal town

Gandebal, 04 July: There are scores of shopping complexes in Ganderbal town that lack adequate parking spaces and thereby prompting the customers to park their vehicles on roads which results in massive traffic jams in the town.

Local residents told ‘Kashmir Images’ that Ganderbal town has very narrow roads which very often lead to traffic jams here. “The lack of adequate parking spaces near shopping complexes in the town adds to the traffic mess,” they said.

“People who come for shopping in these complexes are compelled to park vehicles on roads. District administration should act against the owners of these shopping complexes to ensure adequate parking slots,” they added.

“Unchecked construction of shopping complexes in Ganderbal town is one of the major causes of traffic jams.  Only a few shopping complexes have parking spaces near them. People often park vehicles on the wrong side of the road which causes inconvenience to commuters,” said a commuter.

When contacted executive officer Ganderbal Municipal committee, G M lone, said, “I know there is a violation of the law. There has been a mushrooming of shopping complexes in Ganderbal town. We cannot act against old constructions. We are keeping close vigil on new constructions.”

“In coming days, IG traffic Basant Rath will visit Ganderbal. He will solve the problem,” he added.
