Press Council of India members interact with Director Information

SRINAGAR, JULY 02: The three-member visiting panel of Press Council of India (PCI) called on Director Information and PR, Tariq Ahmad Zargar here this morning to discuss various issues pertaining to the media scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.

Joint Director Information (Headquarters) SaajidYehaya Naqash and other officials of the Department were also present on the occasion.

The PCI Members comprising Prabhat Kumar Dash, Ashok Upadhyay and Prof Sushma Yadav arrived here on Sunday to have first-hand appraisal of the media scenario in J&K and the challenges confronting the journalists in the State.

Director Information apprised the PCI panel in detail about the functioning of DIPR and the steps being taken by the State Government to facilitate smooth functioning and growth of the media organizations and working journalists in J&K.

The PCI panel asked DIPR to further strengthen the amenities available to the media fraternity including institution of a welfare scheme, health insurance, pension scheme and travel concessions for the working journalists.

The Committee is scheduled to meet various State Government functionaries besides representatives of the media fraternity during their ongoing visit to the State.
