Governor releases “Anthology of Bhai Vir Singh’s Poems”

SRINAGAR, JULY 2: Governor N.N. Vohra released “Anthology of Bhai Vir Singh’s Poems”, which is a translation in the Kashmiri language of the original in Punjabi, at a book release function held at Raj Bhavan today. First Lady Usha Vohra was present on the occasion.

This function was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in which eminent writers and artists including Zafar Iqbal Manhas; Prof. Rehman Rahi; Dr. Mohinder Singh; Dr. Nina Puri; Prof. Mohd. Zaman Azurdah; Ayash Ari; Kacho Asfandyar Khan; Ajeet Singh Mastana; Mukhtar Ahmad and Punita Singh participated.

The translation of Bhai Vir Singh’s poems has been done by Surinder Neer and Gauri Shankar Raina. The volume contains attractive photographs of the scenic sights and places which inspired the poems.

Dr. Aziz Hajini, Secretary JKAACL, presented the Welcome Address and highlighted features of Kashmiri and Punjabi Sufi poetry.

The Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan felicitated the First Lady and Governor, on behalf of the Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan, felicitated eminent Writer and Poet Prof. Rehman Rahi.

Governor emphasized the crucial importance of translated works enriching the entire body of literature and complimented Dr. Mohinder Singh and his colleagues in the Sadan for the excellent initiative of translating Bhai Vir Singh’s verses in Kashmiri and Hindi languages.
