JAMMU, JULY 01: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma today reviewed post rain situation and future preparedness of disaster management in the Division here at a high level meeting.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Jammu , Kumar Rajeev Ranjan (in person) and Deputy Commissioners of Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Samba, Kathua, Poonch and Ramban districts  (through video conference )  besides Head of Departments and senior functionaries of district administrations and concerned departments.

He reviewed the overall scenario of Power, Agriculture, Horticulture, PHE, Health and other sectors in the districts and took stock of damaged infrastructure due to recent rainfall.

The Div Com asked Deputy Commissioners to take all necessary measures to ensure safety of the people and conduct mock drills of disaster management in vulnerable areas. He directed the concerned functionaries to expedite the restoration and repair works under close supervision and keep the buffer stock to be utilized in case of any eventuality.

The Div Com emphasized on putting onus on executing agencies for the repair of damaged roads due to landslides and asked the district administrations and development departments to put in synchronized efforts for quick action to minimize any damage.

“Check quality of food in eateries, medicines in medical shops and reachout those in need of Medicare, conduct sample testing of water and provide clean potable water to the public,” the Div Com directed the concerned functionaries.

Taking strong note of absence of few Head of Departments from such meetings on one pretext or the other, the Div Com directed for taking strict action against such HoDs and district officers who remain absent without any reason.  He directed the HoDs to restrain from sending their subordinates to the meetings and asked them to arrange Video Conferences in case they are unable to mark their presence in person.

He directed the concerned officers to classify the crops and advise the farmers to grow sustainable crops that can resist bad weather.

During the meeting, the Div Com also took stock of the various ongoing development works in these districts. He was informed about the works completed till date and further progress made on the ongoing works.

The Div Com instructed the DCs to identify feasible lands for Seema Bhawans keeping view the cost factor for the availability of electric and water supply.

Stressing on maintaining close coordination among the government departments, the Div Com directed the concerned functionaries to ensure regular monitoring of the ongoing works besides adhering to quality norms.

He asked the DCs to identify cluster of government lands to be utilized productively and conduct audit of progress made under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The Divisional Commissioner exhorted upon the executing agencies to speed up the pace of progress on under construction projects for providing early benefits to the people. The meeting was also informed about the status of land records in the districts.
