State Judicial Academy organises workshop on Juvenile Justice System

SRINAGAR, JUNE 30: A two-day workshop on Juvenile Justice System for Juvenile Justice Boards (Principal Magistrates and Social Members) organized jointly by Jammu & Kashmir State Judicial Academy and Save the Children was inaugurated District Court Complex at Moominabad here today.

The workshop was inaugurated by Acting Chief Justice, J&K High Court, Justice Alok Aradhe in presence of Chairman Juvenile Justice Committee Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, former Judge of High Court (Chairman, Selection-Cum-Oversight Committee) Hasnain Massodi, Special Director General of Police V K Singh, and CEO Save the Children Bidisha Pillai.

Justice Aradhe, who is also Chief-Patron State Judicial Academy, complemented the Academy for organising the programme for effective implementation of Juvenile Justice System in the State. “The real challenge lies in implementing the relevant provisions of laws, schemes and programmes meant for children welfare,” he added.

Justice Magrey in his address said in every society fundamental rights of children are prone to violations. “To meet such an eventuality, the States under the Convention have recognised the right of every such child to be treated in a manner which is consistent with the promotion of the child’s sense of dignity and worth,” he said.

Justice Massodi highlighted the steps already taken by the government regarding the implementation of Juvenile Justice Act and overall progress of Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS).

On the occasion, Special Director General of Police who is also the Designated Nodal Officer under Juvenile Justice Act highlighted the overall steps taken by Police for effective implementation of the Act.

CEO Save the Children in her address highlighted the overall plight of children in need of care & protection and the children in conflict with the law with particular reference to the State of J&K. She also shared her recent experience of meeting the juveniles and stressed upon the need for effective implementation of the Act.
