Baramulla: Forest Protection Force (FPF) Baramulla along with officials of forest department seized a Maruti car and a horse with illicit timber at Korgah Chakla of Dobgah forest range in Jehlum Valley, forest division, in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town on late Thursday night.
Acting on specific inputs last night about movement of timber smugglers, FPF Baramulla and forest set up check point at various check points at Korgah Chakla of Dobgah forest range of JV Forest Division.
“The illicit timber consignment laden on horse was being escorted by a Maruti Car bearing Registration No JK12- 3932 driven by an alleged notorious timber smuggler of north Kashmir Nazir Ahmad Gojri alias Nazir Cobra son of Mohmmad Sultan Gojri of Iqbal colony old town, Baramulla. The horse and the Maruti car were also seized,” said DFO JV Division Mukhtar Ahmed.
However, he said that range officer Bilal Ahmed escaped bid on his life after smugglers led by Nazir Ahmad Gojri attacked him and attempted to murder him. “Bilal sustained injuries and his private car was also damaged by the smugglers.”
He further said that taking advantage of darkness, smugglers managed to escape from the spot. “A manhunt launched to nab the culprits.”
He added that department has taken up the matter with SSP Baramulla for further action against the culprits.
