Srinagar 26th June 2018:  Jammu and Kashmir State AIDS Control Society organised the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking at Institute of Hotel Management Rajbagh, Srinagar. The programme was attended by a galaxy of dignitaries and representatives from Health sector, Social workers, NGOs, members of Downtown Co-ordination Committee and representatives of various media organisations.

During the program different stake holders deliberated on the issue of Drug Addiction. Dr. Saleem-ur-Rahman (Director General Health Services Kashmir) was the chief guest on this occasion. He emphasized on need of community participation wherein common people are engaged to meet this objective and also assured full support & cooperation from his department of Health Kashmir in this regard.

Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Project Director JKSACS made a detailed Presentation on the Proposal for Eradication of drug Menace in J & K and also highlighted the different activities carried out in this direction. He emphasized on the establishment of Mohalla Committees, which would help to address this issue at the grass root level. He also emphasised on the utility of Oral substitution therapy in De-addiction.

On this occasion a special booklet titled “Drug Abuse and Prevention Guide “compiled by Centre for Youth Development, Srinagar was released by Dr Saleem Ur Rehman. This booklet has been compiled under the guidance of Imtiyaz Chashti, Chairman CYD, Dr Arshad Hussain, Dr Amit Wanchoo, Dr Muzaffar and Dr Sanjay Parva. The booklet has been printed by J&K Bank. Speaking on the occasion Dr.  Tabasum Jabeen (Dy. Director JKSACS) reiterated on the need of mobilizing different resources in this direction and she explained the importance of the theme/ Day. “Listen First: Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe”.

Dr Amit Wanchoo, Chairman H N Wanchoo Trust conducted the program. Mementoes were presented to the dignitaries on behalf of J&K State AIDS Control Society for their commitment towards the cause of Drug De Addiction Mementoes and certificates were also distributed among the Peer Educators working in different Targeted Intervention Projects of JKSACS. Dr Yasir Nodal officer, Representatives of (IDU) Targeted Intervention Projects (NGOs) also spoke on the occasion.
