Nadihal: Student injured in alleged BSF fire

Baramulla: An 11th class student was injured after Border Security Force cavalcade allegedly opened fire on protesting group of youth including some students at Nadihal Rafibad  in the outskirts of north Kashmir’s Baramulla town on Monday.

A police official said a youth identified as Ubaid Manzoor son of Manzoor Ahmed Lone of Nadihal Sopore suffered a bullet wound in his right thigh after paramilitary BSF opened fire when its vehicle came under stone pelting at Nadihal on Baramulla-Kupwara highway today.

Eyewitnesses said that a group of students and other local youth were protesting against the recent civilian killing in different parts of Valley.

“The youth including few students  were protesting and had blocked highway in the area. In the meantime, a BSF cavalcade passed through the area and the protesting students hurled stones on it and the BSF  troopers fired some shots resulting in injuries to the student,” said the another eyewitness.

Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Baramulla, Dr Syed Masood  said, “The youth suffered firearm injury in the thigh and after initial treatment he has been referred to SKIMS Srinagar for specialized treatment.”

Baramulla police has registered a case in this regard and investigation is going on.

“A case under FIR No 103 of 2018 Under Section 307,336,144 RPC has been registered  in police station Baramulla and further investigation into the incident has been launched,” a police spokesman said.
