Sopore: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two youth in Rafiabad area of Sopore in District Baramulla, who the police said had gone missing after a special police officer (SPO) guarding a BJP leader  fled with a weapon last month,  a police official said.

According to police official, the arrested youth have been identified as Aarif Ahmed Malla son of Ghulam Mahidin Malla resident of Shitlo Rafiabad and Raish Ahamd Naik son of Ali Mohammad Naik resident of Dichpura Narasach Kulgam.

Pertinently, a Special Police Officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police guarding a BJP leader in north Kashmir went missing along with a weapon last month. The SPO who has been identified as Waseem Ahmed, a resident of Shutloo, Panzala is still at large.

Meanwhile, Sopore police has issued a statement in this regard and the same is being produced verbatim below:

“Police have arrested two OGWs, who were involved in desertion of Special Police Officer (SPO) turned Militant Case.”

On 18-06-2018, a Joint Naka was laid by Police Component Rafiabad, 32-RR & 92 Bn. CRPF near Dachanpora Crossing at Rohama.

During checking one motorcycle bearing registration No. JK09- 2055 coming from Dachanpora towards Rohama having two pillion riders on it. They tried to escape from the spot, but the alert Naka Party tactfully chased and overpowered the duo.

During preliminary questioning they revealed their identity as Arif Ahmad Malla S/O Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Malla R/O Shitloo, Rafiabad and Rayees Ahmad Naik S/O Ali Mohammad Naik R/O DH-Pora, Kulgam. Pistol = 01, Pistol Amm. = 03 Rds. & Matrix Sheet = 01 were recovered from Arif Ahmad Malla.

While as Hand Grenade = 01 & Matrix Sheet = 01, were recovered from Rayees Ahmad Naik. In this regard, Case FIR No. 48/2018 U/S 2/25 I. A. Act, 13 ULA Act stands registered in Police Station Panzalla.

During the course of investigation, it surfaced that the duo were active OGW’s of LeT outfit and the OGW Arif Ahmad Malla is also involved in desertion/ decamping of weapon Case of SPO turned militant. Investigation of the Case is going on and more arrests are expected.
