Jammu, Jun 15: The Press Club of Jammu on Friday paid tributes to Editor in Chief ‘Rising Kashmir’, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Srinagar on Thursday evening. Two PSOs accompanying him, were also killed in the barbaric terror attack.

The fraternity paid tributes to the slain journalist and also condoled his demise. The media persons also observed two minute silence for the peace of departed soul.

Remembering his days with Shujaat Bukhari, President Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar called the incident as unfortunate. He said it was an attack on democracy and added, “I had great memories with Shujaat.”

“He was a gentleman and a professional journalist,” he said adding that attack on Shujaat, have raised many eyebrows among media circle. Ashwani however, called his killing as a well planned conspiracy to gag sane voice.

Senior Journalist Arun Joshi also remembered Shujaat while paying tributes and said that it is really shocking and stunning incident.

“Shujaat had launched a campaign against drug mafia and was working on social issues as well,” he said adding that his death has created vacuum among the fraternity. He recalled this long association with Shujaat and called him as purely professional journalist who was committed to profession.

“Carrying forward the campaign for social issues and against drug mafia would be would be the real tributes to Shujaat”, Joshi said while paying his tributes to the departed soul.

Senior journalist and former president of PCJ Manu Shrivatsa, in his address, recalled Shujaat’s contribution in the field of journalism in J&K and said that he was dedicated to his profession. Shrivatsa said that media persons in J&K are facing pressure from different quarters due to prevailing situation in the State.

Devender Singh Rana, provincial president of National Conference and MLA Nagrota, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, secretary general of PCJ,  R S Gill, Sunny Dua and other journalist paid floral tributes to Shujaat Bukhari and recalled his association with the media fraternity  of Jammu in general and Press Club Jammu in particular.
