Kishtwar, June 16: Three women were killed after their temporary residential sheds came under landslides, triggered by heavy rains at Shasho Pader, a forest area in Kishtwar in Jammu on Saturday.

Station House Officer (SHO) of the concerned area, Rajpal Singh, told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that eight persons of Bakerwal families got trapped after their temporary tents came under the landslide at Shasho Padder area.

Soon after receiving the information about the incident, a police team was immediately rushed to the spot and removed all the eight trapped persons including three minor boys and two girls to Primary Health Centre Kerro, he said. Three women were declared brought dead, the officer said.

He said that the five minor injured where referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment.

He said that the male members of the families had gone to offer the (Zahr) prayers when the incident occurred.

The officer said the Bakerwals put up in these shelters during summers. They originally reside at Pathernaki, Kishtwar.

The officer identified the deceased as identified as Zeenam (46) wife of Farooq Ahmed, Maryam (27) wife of Noor Ahmed and Zareena (22) wife of Noorani.

The injured were identified as Yaseen (5), Mushtaq Ahmad (5), Noor Jahan (6), Maheera Jan (4) and  Rafeeq (6).

After conducting all legal formalities, the bodies of the trio were handed over to the families for last rites. (GNS)
