Shopian: One Special Police Officer (SPO) was shot at and injured by militants in Shopian Wednesday evening while as his sister also sustained a bullet injury in her leg.

Sources said that militants opened fire on SPO Rayees Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Hassan Lone of Kathohalan Shoipan at his residence on Wednesday evening.

The SPO received multiple bullets and was rushed to Pulwama hospital, sources said, wherefrom he was referred to a Srinagar hospital in a critical condition.

Sources said that in the shoot-out, SPO’s sister also was hit in the leg who too was shifted to hospital.

The injured SPO was serving at District Police Lines, Shopian.

Earlier, militants on Wednesday evening lobbed a grenade towards police station Lassipora in Pulwama district, police said.

SP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudhary said the grenade was hurled on police station Lasipora Pulwama at 7:15 PM on Wednesday. The grenade exploded with a bang and policemen on duty retaliated the attack by firing towards the militants. The militants however managed to escape from the spot.

Following the attack Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, police and CRPF troops rushed to the spot and launched searches to nab the assailants.

Till reports last came in, no one was arrested and no one was injured in the incident.
