Erring traders fined in Baramulla

BARAMULLA, JUNE 11: In order to keep a check on prices and ensure the quality of essential commodities during Eid-ul-Fitr, Additional Deputy Commissioner Farooq Ahmad Baba accompanied by Tehsildar Moen Kakroo and others concerned inspected various markets of Baramulla town.

The team, during inspection, imposed a fine of Rs 10600 from erring shopkeepers under various provisions of Weights and measures and Food safety standards act 2006. The squad also destroyed 68 kg of rotten vegetables and seized 42 kg of polythene from erring shopkeepers.

The ADC on the occasion warned the erring shopkeepers to abide by provisions of food safety standards act 2006 and sought cooperation from the general public to curb such violations by the shopkeepers.

The concerned officers of line departments were directed to keep available all the essential commodities on a reasonable rate besides maintaining the quality of essential commodities.

The market checking squad was representing the departments of Revenue, Weights and Measures, Municipal Committee, FCS&CA, Legal Metrology and Police.

ADC on the occasion said that such raids will continue in future as well so that people may not face any inconvenience.
