Srinagar, June 7: Police on Thursday said to have foiled a rifle-snatching bid by the militants in Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Official sources told GNS that a group of three to four militants attacked a police post guarding the house of Advocate General, Jehangir Iqbal at Mattan at around 10:05 pm.

Confirming the incident, SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan told GNS that the militants approached the police post guarding the Advocate General’s house in Mattan with an intention to loot weapons.

“However, the alert sentry retaliated the fire as a result of which the militants fled, thus repulsed the attempt of weapon snatching,” he said, adding the area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
