JK qualifies for World Skills India National Competition

LUCKNOW, JUNE 03- Jammu and Kashmir has qualified for World Skills India National Competition with at least five of its competitors in mobile robotics, mechanical CAD, graphic designing, patisserie & confectionary trades winning accolades and critical acclaim at the 3-day regional competition held in Lucknow (UP).

After three-days of great display of passion and grit, the Northern Chapter of India Skills Regional Competitions 2018 concluded here at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan in Lucknow.

Winners, first runner ups and second runner ups were announced in each skill category, totaling to 90 awardees.

The winners of the regional level skill competition will further participate in the World Skills India national level competitions leading to the World Skills Competition to be held at Kazan, Russia in 2019. The national skill competition will be held in July, 2018.

As many as 12 States of India participated in twenty seven categories at the regional competition in Lucknow. While as Jammu and Kashmir participated in 10 categories including mobile robotics, mechanical CAD, graphic designing, patisserie & confectionary, beauty and wellness, automobile technology, cooking, bakery, web designing and development, carpentry.  The JKSDM official said that these competitors have undergone rigorous training programme before coming to the regional level and similarly the winners at the regional level would be deputed to reputed training and corporate sectors for further enhancement of their skills.

Meanwhile, Minister for Higher education, Technical Education and Informational Technology, Moulvi Imaran Raza Ansari has complimented the winners, hoping that their participation at National or World Skill competition would be a game changer for the youth of the State.

Ansari said that youth today need to be harnessed, motivated, skilled and streamlined to bring rapid progress for a nation.

“We have one step to go to World Skills Competition 2019. 700 registrations, 20 State Level Winners, and 5 regional level winners,” said Ansari in a tweet.

He also congratulated and complimented the winners including Sheikh Najeeb Shafi (Mobile Robotics) Mir Faizan ( Mobile Robotics) Rajpal Singh (Mechanical CAD) Saharsh Shora, Graphic Designing)  Gaurav Bhaghat (Patisserie and Confectionery)

Earlier at least 20 young skilled youth, state champions from Jammu and Kashmir were selected for regional level India Skills Competition 2018.

Ansari applauded the participants, saying that events and programmes like IndiaSkills encourage the young generation to display their skills at various national and international platforms.

Pertinently World Skills International is the largest skill competition in the world, organized once every two years in one of the member countries. More than 1300 contestants below the age of 23, compete for gold, silver and bronze medals, in over 50 skills. The competition is held over a span of four days.

World Skills India is an initiative of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship which has been leading India’s participation at World Skills International competitions since 2011.  World Skills India is responsible for the selection, development, management and participation of Team India in World Skills Competitions and other international competitions.  World Skills India makes the final decision on any issues regarding every stage of the International competition journey and selection processes.

Earlier, Jayant Krishna, Executive Director of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), presented the sketch of the functioning of the NSDC and also spoke in detail about the World Skills India and its operations..

“Over 1.5 crore young people were trained last year, he said. “We want this percentage to reach 16 % this year,” Krishna added.

Mission Director, Jammu and Kashmir Skill Mission (JKSDM), Dr Peer Ghulam Nabi Suhail, among other officials are accompanying the competitors at Lucknow.

Pertinently in order to aim at engaging different stakeholders in skill building, entrepreneurship and grassroots innovations, the Jammu and Kashmir government recently held a two-day skill and entrepreneurship conclave, first-of-its-kind event in the state. The maiden conclave TALAASH was themed as “Building Human Capital: Skill-Innovation-Entrepreneurship”.
