Two militants killed in Handwara gunfight

Handwara: Two militants were killed in an overnight  gunfight in Qaziabad Kralgund  forest area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.

The gunfight erupted on militants opened fire upon patrolling party of army’s 32 RR late last night in forest area of Qaziabad in Kralgund.

“The fire was retaliated triggering a fierce  gunfight in the dense woods of Qaziabad forests area. The exchange of fire continued for some time,” top Army official said.

He added that the operation was later suspended due to darkness. During search operations a on Thursday morning the bodies of two militants were recovered.

” We have recovered the bodies of two unidentified militants along with as many AK 47 rifles and other war like stores during the search operation in the area,” the Army officer who was part of operations said.

The identities and the group affiliation of the slain is being ascertained,  it seems that the duo killed in the operation are foreigners.

The identity of the slain militants could not be established immediately.

The combing of the forest area is in progress.The Army has also claimed to recover arms and ammunition from the gunfight site.
