Srinagar, May 26: Police today claimed to have solved two grenade attack cases by arresting two Srinagar youth involved in them.

Police spokesman said while investigating a grenade attack cases registered in Police Station Safakadal, one suspect Basit Ahmad Malik, son of Mohammed Ashraf Malik of Nowpora SafaKadal was rounded up.

“During sustained questioning, the suspect (Malik) disclosed to have lobbed grenades along with another accomplice Adil Qayoom Najar, son of Abdul Qayoom Najar of Gulshanabad Noorbagh at two different occasions — one at Chatabal and second at Baripora,” spokesman said.

He said on Malik’s disclosure one live grenade was recovered.

“On this information, Adil Qayoom Najar was questioned and upon his disclosure explosive materials (apparently RDX weighing about 1.2 Kgs in the shape of 05 Sticks wrapped in carbon paper and detonators) and other incriminating material was recovered,” police spokesman said.

“The subject further revealed that they were planning to lob a grenade after Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta,” spokesman said, adding that further investigation is on to “unearth the nefarious plans of anti-national element and banned organizations for disruptive activities”.
