Human-shield victim holds sit-in protest demanding punishment to Major Gogoi

Srinagar, May 24: Day after an Army major was held with a local girl in suspicious circumstances from a local hotel, Budgam human-shield victim, Farooq Ahmad Dar today held a sit-in protest demanding arrest of Major Gogoi, whom he termed as “habitual offender”.

Joined by local rights activist Mohammad Ahsan Untoo, Dar who had gagged his mouth with piece of cloth sat on a peaceful ‘dharna’ at Press Enclave here and gave vent to his anger through placards which read “arrest the sadist”.

Talking to reporters, chairman, International Forum for Justice (IFJ),  Ahsan Untoo said there are seven cases including that of tying Budgam youth (Dar) with Army vehicle pending against Gogoi.

He said it has been more than a year but the investigations in human-shield issue are yet to be concluded.

“This is an irony that investigation into Budgam human-shield issue is yet to be concluded. Gogoi being a habitual offender must be brought to book for committing heinous crimes with impunity,” Untoo said.

He said arrest of Gogoi is a slap on those “so-called nationalist TV channels, who made Gogoi a hero overnight in the aftermath of human-shield incident.”

Untoo alleged that Gogoi, “against whom several cases of rights abuse are pending before State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), must be given exemplary punishment for exploiting a minor girl.”

“We want Gogoi to be dealt in consonance with law and justice and the government instead of honoring him should immediately sack him besides registering case of sexual abuse against him,” Untoo added.
