Sat Sharma inaugurates 3-day drive from Parade Ground

JAMMU, MAY 21- Emphasizing the need for maintaining environment free from pollution of any kind, Minister for Housing and Urban Development Department Sat Sharma today said that cleanliness drive would be speeded up and made a regular feature.

The Minister was addressing a gathering at the inaugural function   of launch of Clean Jammu – Clean Tawi campaign here at Parade Ground.

The campaign will continue for three days (up to May 23, 2018) and witness series of cleanliness and anti-pollution awareness activities.

The three-day campaign is being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA) (Police Pariwar).

MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta, Chief Secretary B.B. Vyas, Divisional Commissioner Hemant Kumar Sharma, Director General of Police, Dr. S.P. Vaid, IGP, S D Singh and senior functionaries of police and divisional administration were also present on the occasion.

Sat Sharma said that the success of cleanliness campaign only can bring a desirable and positive change in the life of the people of the country. He said with this vision in mind Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Pinning high hopes from the campaign, he called for involving maximum youth adding that they are real crusaders of the Clean India campaign.

Highlighting the religious and historical importance of River Tawi, MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta said cleaning Tawi with the aim to bring it to its past glory is the objective of this campaign for which all stakeholders must contribute.

The main highlights of the campaign are Walk for Tawi, Cultural Programmes, NukkadNataks, Slogan, painting competition, lectures on waste management, quiz and on spot prizes at different places across Jammu city, Tawi cleanup, cleanliness drives, distribution of community meals, bike rally etc.

After inaugural function, over one thousand students of various educational institutions took part in the march   holding placards with messages for Clean Jammu – Clean Tawi.  A Bike Rally organized as part of the campaign was also flagged off by the Minister.

A painting competition/camp will be held at Bagh-e-Bahu on day 2 of the campaign i.e May 22, 2018 from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. Whereas a team of 12 doctors and experts will deliver motivational talks and demonstrations regarding waste management.

The concluding function will be held on the third day in Police Auditorium at 5.30 pm wherein those who contributed for the success of the campaign ‘#Hero4Tawi’ will be felicitated.

Earlier, in her welcome address Chairperson, PWWA, Bharti Vaid highlighted the aims and objectives of the campaign. She said cleanliness and its awareness was inherent duty of all and concerted efforts in this regard can make the campaign successful.
