Rana seeks jobs for locals in IIT, IIM, Jammu Zoo during CM’s review meet

JAGTI JAMMU MAY 21- Reiterating his demand for jobs to locals in the upcoming IIT, IIM and Jammu Zoo in Nagrota Assembly Constituency, MLA and Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Monday made a strong case for a specific share in the non-academic, technical and support staff of these institutions by the respective managements.

“The locals, being primary stake-holders should be considered for various slots in these institutions on the analogy of various public sector undertakings including the Indian Railways, which have provision for land losers, whose lands are acquired for construction purposes”, Rana said while intervening in the discussions held during review meeting of these projects taken by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at Jagti this morning.

Dwelling upon the allocation of jobs for locals in IIT and IIM, Rana said the peripheries around these institutions have talented youth who could be considered against the posts of electricians, plumbers, technicians, gardeners, drivers, watch and ward staff besides support staff in the non-academic arena. He said he has, time and again, emphasized this to the managements with a plea that skilled and unskilled force like masons, carpenters, painters, welders etc besides contractors for various supplies could also be engaged locally.

Rana said that since a new airport is also proposed to be laid in Bajalta or Panjgrian, the avenues of jobs for the locals in various categories will have to be ensured. He said a concrete policy is needed to be devised for optimum job opportunities for the locals wherever projects of eminence come up.

“This is a fair proposition that merits consideration and appropriate instructions from the designated quarters”, Rana said and urged the Chief Minister to take up the issue with all concerned at the apex level earnestly.

The MLA Nagrota said that he and the people of his constituency have been monitoring the IIT coming up brick by brick and the contribution of the hardworking local work-force has been crucial.

“Their hard toil, I hope, will bear fruit and prove game changer for the Nagrota Assembly Constituency”, Rana maintained.

Agreeing in principle to the suggestion of Devender Singh Rana, the Chief Minister assured that the proposition having merits will be considered and taken up with all concerned.
