Srinagar, May 16: Unknown persons on Wednesday snatched a rifle from a policeman at the Kashmir University in Hazratbal, Srinagar.
Reports said that some unknown persons overpowered a policeman posted at the varsity’s Rumi Gate and fled with his rifle.
Confirming the incident, a police official said “a rifle was snatched from the guard post at the Kashmir University near the Rumi Gate. The guards were deployed at the university on deputation from the Armed Police.”
He said the government forces have launched searches in the area to recover the rifle even as efforts are on to identify the culprits.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and MLA Beerwah Omar Abdullah while reacting to the rifle snatching incident at the Kashmir University’s Rumi Gate, wrote on twitter: “They are even snatching rifles outside Kashmir University now. It doesn’t look like any place in Kashmir is safe any longer.”
