Srinagar, May 15: A policeman was killed and another injured after militants attacked a police vehicle in Pazalpora area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday.

Reports said that Head Constable Abdul Rashid and Special Police Officer (SPO) Bilal Ahmad were injured in the attack. Both of them were rushed to Sub-district Hospital Bijbehara where Ahmad was declared dead on arrival.

Rashid was subsequently referred to Srinagar after initial treatment at the hospital, said a doctor.

“Militants fired at police vehicle in Bijbehara. Police retaliated. One policeman injured in the process succumbed to his injury. Area under cordon. Details will follow,” police said on Twitter.

In another incident, suspected militants on Tuesday lobbed a grenade at police station Rajpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A police official said that the grenade was lobbed at the police station. However, there was no report of any loss of life or property.

“Grenade incident near police station Rajpora. No loss of life and property. Search continues. Details will follow,” police said on Twitter.
