JKTEF march to civil secretariat foiled by police

SRINAGAR: A protest march under the leadership of senior JCC leader Zulkarnain Bhat and General Secretary JK Technical Employees Federation PD Er. Shakeel Ahamad was held on Monday by JK Technical Employees Federation against Power Development Department (PDD).

According to the reports, scores of employees from across the valley assembled at Chief Engineer EM&RE office Srinagar on Monday and started marching towards civil secretariat to press the government for fulfilling their long pending demands including implementation of SRO 149 including creation of posts, framing of service rule, fixation of seniority, risk allowance in favor of PDD employees, removal of stagnation period of third regularization of daily wagers, and release of regular salary  to casual/need based employees .

Eyewitnesses said that as the protesting employees started their march towards Civil Secretariat Srinagar, police in order to foil the protest baton charged the employees that resulted in clashes.

“Hundreds of employees including Zulkarnain Bhat, General Secretary Er shakeel Ah and Vice President JK Technical Employees Federation PDD Syed Muzaffar among other prominent members of JKTEF were arrested by the police,” said the eyewitnesses.

A group of JKTEF members said that police stopped them before they could reach the civil secretariat ensuing minor clashes and later they observed a sit-in.”

JKTEF PDD members threatened to launch a state-wide agitation, if the government did not concede to their demands.

While urging the authorities to address the long pending legitimate grievances of Tech 3rd employees, the PDD employees said that they are extending their full support to the protesting employees.
