Srinagar, May 10: The residents of Kanitar, Sudrebal on the city outskirts have expressed serious resentment over poor drainage system in the area which they claimed has become a cause of concern for the people living around.

They alleged that the authorities have never carried repair work of the drainage in the area thus making the residents to suffer immensely.

“Besides being a serious threat to children and elderly, the poor drainage which often remains chocked has started taking its toll on the health of residents,” said Nazir Ahmad Shawl, a Kanitar resident.

The aggravated residents alleged that despite brining the issue into the notice of concerned authorities, the condition of drains is same as it was.

“These drains were constructed way back and since then no repairing was done.

They often remain choked, resulting water logging for days,” added he.

“Minor rainfall sometime results in water logging. It becomes difficult for us to move out even to reach mosque. We have been suffering immensely due to the sick policy of the government vis-à-vis basic living facilities,” said Waseem, another resident.

They also complained that the area lacks street light facility which creates difficulties for the people to walk in the evenings.

The residents appealed the authorities to address the issues at an earliest.
