Srinagar, May 4 : A woman sustained injuries after Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged heavy firing in north Kashmir’s Tanghdar Sector of Kupwara district last night.

A senior police officer said that Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts of army’s 20 JAT at Tad along LoC in Tanghdar at 11:00 pm on Thursday.

“The fire was retaliated and continued intermittently till 4:30 am,” he said.

During the clash, few shells landed near the civilian population resulting in injuries to a woman, the officer told GNS.

He identified the injured as Noor Jahan wife of Ghulam Hassan and has been hospitalized.

Meanwhile, Army’s Kupwara based  spokesperson confirmed the incident.

“Unprovoked ceasefire violation initiated by Pakistan posts in Tanghdar sector. Own troops have retaliated appropriatey”, the spokesperson said.
