KVK organizes LSD programme at Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: Krishi Vigyan Kandra (KVK), Ganderbal, organized a Live Stock Development (LSD) programme at Pahelnaar, today, in which a scientist-farmer interaction and animal clinical camp was held, besides, broiler birds, area specific mineral mixture developed by SKUAST was distributed among farmers.

Member Legislative Assembly, Kangan, Mian Altaf Ahmad was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Addressing a well-attended gathering of farmers Mian Altaf impressed upon farmers to take full advantage of the latest technology and techniques of agriculture and livestock farming from the top experts from SKUAST-K.

Referring to the extension programmes conducted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal, Mian Altaf Ahmad thanked SKUAST-K for their outreach to the far-off tribal villages of Ganderbal.  He asked VC SKUAST Kashmir to have such programmes in different tribal areas of the region on regular basis.

“Our farmers in these far and flung areas are mostly illiterate and have less access to the latest techniques of farming and conducting awareness camps on regular basis would be very helpful in livelihood making of these poor Tribals,” Mian Altaf said

Vice-chancellor SKUAST Kashmir, Prof Nazeer Ahmad on the occasion announced the adoption of Pahaelnaar for different integrated farming activities by SKUAST-K and promised every possible technical help from SKUAST-K to the farmers of the region.

He asked Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal to install a walnut grading unit and egg incubator out of Tribal Sub Plan funding and popularization of high-density plants, SKUAST-K developed fruit planting material.

He also asked Kendra scientists to expand their Aroma mission to the area.

Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr. Piyush Singla, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Prof Mushtaq Ahmad and scientists of KVK Ganderbal also spoke on the occasion.

Later, Animal Clinical camp, distribution of birds, de-worming drugs, and Ganderbal specific mineral mixture was formally inaugurated by the chief guest, Mian Altaf Ahmad in presence of VC Prof Nazeer Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Director Extension SKUAST-K and head KVK Ganderbal, Dr. Javid Bhat.

Experts from SKUAST-K, Prof D.M Makkhdoomi, Dr. Parvaiz Reshi, Dr. Gowher Gull, Dr. Showkat Nabi, Dr. M.D. Niko treated animals for different diseases.
