“The passengers had a narrow escape when the Sumo vehicle they were travelling in came under a heavy poplar tree near Boys Degree College Baramulla,” said a local Shopkeeper here.

A police official confirmed that all the passengers traveling in the vehicle bearing registration number JK05 8670 escaped unhurt in the accident.

The traffic on the national highway was stopped until both the vehicle and the tree was removed from the road, he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that decades old poplar trees planted on both sides of the Srinagar-Muzzafarabad highway are posing a constant risk to the lives of passengers and pedestrians.
