Srinagar, Apr 13: Former chief minister Omar Abdullah today asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence over the rape and killing of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua.

“Hon PM sir, there isn’t a day when we don’t hear you speak about things that are important to you yet there are times when you are completely silent about things that are important to others,” he tweeted.

“He has not much experience of politics. He is only a few months old minister. I would not say his remarks came late. I salute his honesty… very few instances come in politics to see this kind of honesty and sincerity,” Omar said.

Abdullah requested the prime minister not to let the girl be “someone you choose to remain silent about”.

The rape and killing of the girl, who belonged to the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community, has become a national issue. The gory details of the heinous crime surfaced following filing of charges.

Omar Abdullah also lauded Tourism minister Tassaduq Mufti for his comment: “BJP-PDP partners in crime, people no longer trust us”.

Omar said that “there are very few instances in politics” to make “honest” statements.

“He has not much experience of politics. He is only a few months old minister. I would not say his remarks came late. I salute his honesty… very few instances come in politics to see this kind of honesty and sincerity,” Omar said.

Omar also demanded action against Jammu bar president B S Slathia who had yesterday threatened of using AK-47 and bombs if the government didn’t listen to their demands of removal of Rohingyas and transfer of Asifa rape-and-murder case from Crime Branch to the CBI.

“If a youth from Kashmir would have talked about taking AK 47 into his hands, PSA would have been slapped on him. B S Slathia has not only threatened this state but entire country,” he said.

Omar said that Slathia also threatened police by saying that he won’t allow them to do their job.

Slathia had, in a press conference yesterday, said: “There is a ‘Tiranga’ (tricolor)  in the hands of Jammu’s youth, tomorrow it can be AK-47 and bomb as well. Don’t force us to (take up arms).”
