Kohli says, Govt committed to provide safe drinking water to people

JAMMU, APRIL 04: – Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli today kick started the drilling work for a Bore well at Androla in Kalakote constituency of district Rajouri.

The Bore Well will be drilled under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) at an estimated cost of Rs 67 lakh and will be completed in five months. After making the Bore Well fully functional it will provide drinking water facilities to as many as 2400 souls of local populace.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the present Government is fully aware about the problems of the people. He said several initiatives have been taken to improve the living standard of the people of the State in general and rural areas in particular.

The Minister said every possible effort is being made to provide better basic amenities including adequate safe drinking water facilities to the people of the State especially living in rural and far flung areas. “PHE department have already been instructed to conduct survey of the Constituency and identify the habitations that have not been provided drinking water facilities so far”, the Minister said adding that they were also been instructed to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for construction of water supply schemes for the area.

He further said that there is a dire need to tap ground water facilities to fulfil the drinking water requirement of the people where water resources are not available.

The Minister stressed for using the water judiciously. He said sufficient funds have been earmarked under PHE sector for the development and upgradation of PHE infrastructure in Kalakote constituency for the current fiscal.

The people of the area thanked the Minister for this initiative and for fulfilling the long pending public demand.

Senior officers of district administration including PHE department were present on the occasion.
