Srinagar, Apr 4: Three members of a family were today killed and an infant injured when their car rammed into a truck on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway at Lethpora area, police said.

“A private car rammed into a parked truck at Lethpora in Pulwama district at 5:30 am, resulting in the death of a couple and their minor son while a toddler was injured,” a police official said, adding the family was on its way to Sopore from Jammu.

The deceased were identified as Ghulam Nabi Dar, 40, his wife Jawahara Begum,35, and their three-year-old son Nasir Dar. The couple’s younger son, 18-month old Yasir Dar, was injured in the accident.

In another accident, a youth was killed and another injured when a giant boulder crushed their vehicle on Srinagar-Jammu highway in Ramban district late last night, police said.

An official said that the duo was travelling towards Jammu from Kashmir when a giant boulder crushed their vehicle  (JK 01V-7711) at Digdol at 11:30 pm.

The deceased was identified as Barik Hilal (23), son of Hilal Ahmad Dagloo, a resident of Usmaniya Colony Goripora Srinagar, said the official.

He identified the injured driver as Dawood Rashid (25), son of Abdul Rashid of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. He was rushed to Ramban hospital for treatment.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the deaths and conveyed her sympathies to the kin of the deceased, an official spokesperson said.
