Top commanders among 11 militants killed in twin Shopian operations

Srinagar, April 1 : Top commanders among eleven militants were killed and four army men sustained injuries in two separate encounters in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.

Official sources told news agency GNS that a total of eleven militants have been killed in the twin operations at Dragad and Kachdoora. They said seven militants were killed at Dragad and four killed in Kachdora.

While Dragad encounter has ended, the operation was going on at Kachdoora.

Four army soldiers have also received injuries in the operation and were shifted to military hospital for treatment.

Among the injured, two soldiers were identified as NK Shrikant and Sepoy Hariom.

More than a dozen persons were injured in clashes that ensued at both the places following the encounters.

Some of the injured have been referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

The gunfight at both the places broke out late last night after a joint team of army’s 44 RR, 3 RR, 34 RR, SOG and CRPF have cordoned off both the places.

Earlier, a militant Rouf Bashir Khanday was killed and his associate Imran Rashid was arrested alive during an overnight gunfight at Brunty Dialgam in Anantnag district.
