Anantnag: As the south Kashmir continues to be on boil, suspected militants today barged into the house of a Special Police Officer (SPO) in a Bijbera village and killed him.

Reports reaching here said that suspected militants on Thursday night barged into the house of Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh (SPO), son of Sonaullah Sheikh at  Katoo Wapzan villlage of Dashnipora belt of Bijbehara and opened indiscriminate fire.

Sheikh was killed in the attack and his wife has been critically wounded, sources said.

She, identified as Fareeda,  has been shifted to a hospital, sources added.

Meanwhile, reports coming in late said that unidentified gunmen shot at one Sayer Ahmad Wani S/O Manzoor Ahmad Wani R/O Chancer Kulgam.

He, by profession a teacher,  has been shifted to a nearby hospital, sources said.

Sources said that Wani has been hit by a bullet in the leg and was admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

In the meantime, sources said that militants opened fire on an Army patrol in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting security forces to launch a cordon-and-search operation tonight.

The militants fired upon a patrolling party of the Army at Ahgam in Shopian district this evening, a police official said.  He said the soldiers retaliated, triggering a brief exchange of fire.

The security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the militants, he added.
