DDC Shopian inaugurates centre with latest books at GGHS Shopian under BBBP

SHOPIAN, MARCH 29: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian Mohammad Aijaz today inaugurated a centre for girl education and empowerment here at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHS) Shopian.

Established by ICDS department, the centre is first of its kind in the district and has been established under Beti Bachao, Beti Padao (BBBP) initiative under the innovation component.

The DDC was informed that the centre has been equipped with a wide range of books to cover topics including Philosophy, personality development. Besides, it also has books for competitive examinations.

After the inauguration the centre, DDC said the effort of establishing such a unique centre exclusively for girl students will go a long way in empowering them and help them realize their dreams.

Lauding the efforts of ICDS department Shopian in shaping the dreams into reality, DDC said the said centre will provide the necessary platform, a proper space to girls where they could explore, acquire knowledge and develop their views and connect to the larger world.

Highlighting the importance and need for this centre, District Programme Officer ICDS Shopian Parvaiz Sajad Ganie said that nothing can replace the pleasure of book reading in the thoughtful ambience and environment that the centre provides.

He insisted upon the students to make the best possible use of this platform, adding a variety of activities are being taken under to BBBP initiative to send a message across the district regarding the importance of girl child in the society.

He further advised the girl students to pursue their education with greater vigour and perseverance and make use of available opportunities to achieve their goals.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Parvaiz  Sajad Ganie, District Programme Officer Shopain, Principal Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Shopain and other concerned officers were on the occasion.
