Saidpora Sopore: Dilapidated School building poses risk to students

Sopore: The dilapidated building of Government Girls Middle School in Reshipora Saidpora Sopore is on the verge of collapse, thereby posing a serious threat to both students and teachers.

The locals said that, last year, the Roads and Buildings Department declared the school building ‘not safe for holding classes’ owing to its shabby condition. However, the concerned authorities continue to use the building.

Ali Mohammad Reshi a resident of Saidpora told Kashmir Images: “We have approached the education department several times requesting them to renovate the school building which is endangering the lives of our children but to no avail.”

“The residents have donated 10 kanals of land for the construction of the school and now what we want from the concerned authorities is that they should start the reconstruction of school building,” Reshi added.

Mohammad Dilawar, father of a Class IV student told Kashmir Images that the condition of the school building has weekend the foundation of the building. “The water seepage has damaged the roof and walls of the school building,” said Mohammad Dilawar.

Headmaster Gulam Nabi Shah told Kashmir Images: “Since 2015, we have been reminding the Department of Education and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to renovate the school building as the students are facing threat to their lives but so far our demands have fallen on deaf ears.”

When contacted, Chief Education Officer Baramulla Abdul Ahad told Kashmir Images that he has no information about the dilapidated School building located at Saidpora. “I will communicate with concerned Zonal Education Officer Dangerpora for immediate action and ask him to shift the students to a safer place,” said Abdul Ahad.
