Srinagar Mar 21: Nizamuddin Bhat former MLA Bandipora and senior PDP leader has said that he is aghast at the reports of seepage in the Kishenganga Hydel power project’s tunnel for water diversion.

Bhat said, as legislator he had always demanded caution in raising the infrastructure as there were reports of snags at various stages.

He said that the power project is a valuable resource and contributes to energy enhancement in the state, besides being one of the prestigious hydel projects.

“Seepage is a major fault which can wreak havoc if it develops into a crack. Executing agency HCC should come up to its reputation and ensure that entire project is safe,” he said.

Bhat also demanded attention of district administration and state’s power corporation for timely intervention for cross check so that no hazards and risks are entailed post commissioning.

He said people of Gurez and Bandipora have earned a major stake in the project, so has state expected an addition to its resource base. “The reports of lacunae are therefore disturbing. State Government while asserting its rights on power projects with NHPC should also take sufficient guarantees from the union government that the central corporation is serious about the upkeep till return of these projects to the state,” he said.

Bhat said local administration should be asked to submit status reports on growing apprehensions about the snags at the project.

He also appreciated efforts of civil society of Bandipora for its voluntary services being rendered in highlighting important issue concerning the district.

He said reports of misconduct in health department in the district also deserve attention for early redressal so that public utility and emergency services get cleared from any nuisance.

Bhat has appreciated chief minister’s directions to administration to ensure efficiency in the administration and hoped that government’s resolve will be taken to its logical conclusion.
